| 1 | Vaccinium dentatum × Vaccinium reticulatum | Alakai Bog Trail, Kikee State Park | Preserved_Specimen | Many (40?) stems emerging from swamp floor, collectedf for variation in leaf size/shape and color, as compared to typical dentatum plentifully occurring close by. Foliage is flimsy - soft, bright lime green, lightly serrated and tipped with red mucro. (Not paper-like as in calycinum, more spongy-light like reticulatum, as opposed to surrounding dentatum which is all dark green leathery.) Growth habit is condensed to crown held up by a woody central leader (reticulatum-like), in contrast to dentatum's usual habit of being vegetated evenly throughout stem. Tiny immature fruit here is red, calyx lobes appearing green and dull-tipped. Leaves too big to be Vaccinium reticulatum var minutifolium, and I cannot confirm at this time that there is Vaccinium reticulatum present in the swamp, so I conclude this hybrid designation. | Becker, A.L. | 105 | Kauai | BISH | 2019-06-29 |
